I recently purchased the Graphic Design Festival Scotland International poster book 2017, which is an excellent reference point for contemporary poster design. The book includes all the exhibited poster who were a part of the International poster exhibition, as well as including some insightful interviews with the participating designers. From reading the book over the last few weeks it has given me numerous things to ponder, such as the role and relevance of a poster today. As we all know posters are by definition "a large printed picture, photograph, or notice that you stick or pin to a wall or board, usually for decoration or to advertise something" However, the book delves into the possibilities of what a poster is capable of as means of communication. It gathers opinions from the designers, which makes for a really interesting read but also provides me with real current topic and understanding within graphic design.
